Gen - Money for Books
I think I just wrote 2,000 words of Omega-verse, and I'm not done yet. This is not the writer I was six months ago. London really changes people. Results to come later.

That's what happens when my writing class goes for pint. These guys are so fun to talk with. I meant to only stay for a bit and wound up staying for two hours. I love talking about Canada to people who think it's interesting. "You lived on 140 acres?! You're half Mennonite?! Wow!" I feel like a new and rare species. (And of course I listened to the other people, but I so rarely get to talk about myself that I grab onto it and throttle it with both hands.)

For my final project in one class, I wanted to write about the legalities of fanfiction and how to cross the line into adaptation, and the tutor loves it. I keep hearing fanfiction talked about in articles as if it's a foreign and incomprehensible anthropological mystery. I think we all know that it's everywhere, and becoming more 'mainstream' all the time. Bout time we addressed that.

And for a final kicker, my other tutor wants us to create a Tumblr presentation for the next class. Ha. Ha. Ha.

London Postcard

Gen - Writer's Block
Well, the three-year-old's birthday party was a success (I swear, that kid has a bigger social life than me), and back home to bewildering flatmates. Another week down for classes. I can't believe we only have two months left. Twelve weeks is the shortest semester I've ever had.

I'd like to promote a project we've been working on. It's called The London Postcard and it's a writing blog based around London. Fiction, non-fiction, poetry, you name it. Each week is a new post from the students and tutors in the program. Check it out! Guess which one is me! They're short!

We're also working on a student anthology of our writing and trying to put that together, starting from scratch. Luckily one of our modules is The Writing Business, so we get practical advice and hands-on experience of the publishing world. Also reminds me why I hate committees.

Tonight I'm off to a photography exhibit at the Victoria & Alberta Museum! Ciao!

Lost in Soho

Gen - Money for Books
So here's a quick rundown of my life in the last six months. If anyone remembers, I was applying for a Master's program in writing. Guess what, I got in! Not only that, but it's in London. Yes, THAT London. I'm studying creative writing in London, in a program that specifically focuses on the city as inspiration. Classes include walking around places like Soho and Covent Garden, getting practical advice on getting published, and amazing tutors and classmates from all over the place.

It's hard being away from my family and my significant other CSM, but it's so worth it. I'm a lot closer to my sister and her family now, and I'm visiting them this weekend for my nephew's third birthday (wish me luck). And, can I mention again that I'm studying writing in London?! Just wanted to throw that out there.

I'm Not Quite Dead...

Gen - Money for Books
...just lost in the high school cafeteria that is Tumblr. Hello, instant gratification heaven (and incandescent rage). I want to revamp this a bit, clean it up. I'll still have my fic up and add a few that haven't made it over here yet. I know there hasn't been any back-and-forth communication, so this is more of a statement of intent. So how about this: at least one post a week, fic-related or otherwise. Deal? Deal.

Goddamnit, this means I have to relearn tags again.

Fic: For the King of Bohemia

SH - Power Trio - They Fight Crime
Title: For the King of Bohemia
Author: alex_caligari
Characters/Pairings: Sherlock Holmes, John Watson, most of the Yarders
Rating: G
Disclaimer: All puppets still firmly attached to the BBC.
Summary: Then it happened. The thing that turned a normal night out into something embarrassingly Sherlockian.
Author's Note: Based on this prompt that asked for some violin crack and pop music. It was supposed to stay crack, but managed to develop feelings along the way. I highly recommend having this playing in the background, loudly and on repeat.

Dear God, please don’t let him play that here, John thought. I just want a normal night out.Collapse )
